Dear Friends and Colleagues,

This is the second announcement for the 8th International Workshop on Plasma Spectroscopy (IPS 2018) to take place from 23 to 26 September 2018 at Worcester College, Oxford, UK. The workshop website is at http://ips2018.chem.ox.ac.uk and will be the main source for information. The Local Organizing Committee welcomes questions at ips2018@chem.ox.ac.uk.

This IPS workshop is the continuation of a biennial series and has become an established international forum for gathering the community of scientists and engineers working in research and technology related to plasmas and their applications. IPS 2018 will cover all modern aspects of plasma spectroscopy connecting basic research with industrial applications. The main topics of the workshop include all types of spectroscopic methods such as laser absorption spectroscopy, frequency combs, FTIR, ATR, OES, LIF, CARS, etc., and their various applications for diagnostics of gas discharges of any kind, particularly spectroscopy of atmospheric pressure or liquid plasmas for plasma medicine and catalysis. IPS 2018 is a unique opportunity to bring together plasma physicists, physical chemists and engineers developing new spectroscopic tools, methodologies and techniques, all working on plasma science.

IPS 2018 will be hosted in the beautiful historic University City of Oxford. The conference will take place in one of the University’s colleges, Worcester college - see http://www.worc.ox.ac.uk. The college is centrally located and accommodation and dining will be on site. All of the talks and poster session will take place in the recently opened Sultan Nazrin Shah Centre – see https://www.meetworcester.com.

Registration is now open. Please see http://ips2018.chem.ox.ac.uk/registration.aspx

The registration fee covers attendance at all sessions, symposium materials including abstract book, welcome reception, banquet dinner, coffee breaks, excursion, and accommodation for all three nights of the workshop (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday). Payment is through the Oxford University on-line store. Accommodation for the night of Wednesday 26th September may be available on request. Email ips2018@chem.ox.ac.uk to enquire.

Abstract submission is now open. Please see http://ips2018.chem.ox.ac.uk/abstracts.aspx

An abstract is required for each presentation. Please use the template available at http://ips2018.chem.ox.ac.uk/abstracts.aspx and follow the instructions. The deadline for abstract submission is 30 June 2018. Contributions will take the form of either oral or poster presentations. You will be informed of the acceptance of your abstract (as either an oral or a poster contribution) by email by 15 July 2018. A prize will be given for the best poster presented by a young scientist. The invited speakers (listed below) are also requested to submit abstracts. PLEASE REGISTER BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR ABSTRACT.

The conference will feature the following invited speakers

  • Timo Gans, University of York, UK
  • Olivier Guaitella, École Polytechnique, France
  • Jean-Pierre van Helden, INP Greifswald, Germany
  • Piotr Maslowski, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Poland
  • Stephan Schlemmer, University of Cologne, Germany
  • Paolo Tosi, University of Trento, Italy

Additionally, an industrial exhibition featuring leading companies in lasers, optics and plasma instrumentation will be held in conjunction with the meeting.

Travel

The most convenient airport to reach Oxford from is London Heathrow.  Direct coach services (https://airline.oxfordbus.co.uk/) depart Heathrow regularly for a return cost of £27. Similar services are also available from London Gatwick Airport.  Stay on the coach until the final stop (Gloucester Green Bus Station).

Another alternative is to fly to Birmingham International Airport, which is linked to Oxford via train services (http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/), with a return cost of around £40.

Worcester College, located on Walton Street in the centre of Oxford, is only a short walk from Oxford’s main bus and rail stations.

Please note the following deadlines

  • June 30, 2018:      Abstract submission deadline
  • July  15, 2018:       Abstract acceptance notification
